REVIEW

There's a good amount of action that happens in this book. You've got some short lived family drama, secret groups of people with superpowers, aliens and lots of blood. All of that is something I normally really enjoy in comics. I'm a big X-Men fan, I even named my son after one.

This issue starts with some unexplained phenomena causing one mans eye to bleed and pop out of his head and then some fighting between superpowered people ending in a pretty gruesome death. The action calms for a bit before we follow someone looking for their sister who is attacked by this red-eyed guy with powers. Luckily, the sister shows up to save her just in time. All of this is pretty straight forward in the superhero genre.

Something I can't quite put my finger on did not click for me in this comic. I am going to give it a few more issues before I make my final judgement. Maybe it was my own expectation and the solicits, but I expected more X-Men and got more Inhumans mixed with Wanted (the comic not the movie). Just like when Marvel temporarily tried to replace the X-Men with the Inhumans, it didn't work for me.

That's the story but the art was as good as expected. You really can't go wrong with Kubert art. There are some great design choices for the characters and the colors work well throughout the issue. The letters are great too, which is what you expect from a Rus Wooten lettered book (even if he doesn't get the cover credit).

I'm sure that I'll probably be in the minority with a review like this. I am normally a fan of Kirkman's work but this missed the mark for me.
