Sneak Peeks & Stretch Goals: February Crowdfunding Projects to Get Excited About

Crowdfunding plays a significant role in tabletop gaming, as it is the driving force behind the creation of many games. There are numerous platforms, including Kickstarter, Gamefound, Backerkit, and more. These platforms help bring plenty of different ideas to life, but crowdfunding has been a staple for a lot of publishers over time to make sure that they don't overprint the game, don't lose money on the game, or simply know there is interest by the general community to play their game.
Let's get to the nitty-gritty, though, and talk about four games that are expected to hit the crowdfunding market in February!
Kickstarter
Botany Floral Dragons

Type of Game: Dice Rolling, Fantasy, Dragons
Number of Players: 1-5
Age: 8+
Time to Play: 45-90 mins
Designer: Amy Droz and Dusty Droz
Artist: Kin Wald
Publisher: Dux Somnium Games
Botany Floral Dragons is a strategy board game where you assume the role of a botanist, travelling the world in search of fame, fortune, and the coveted honor of floral dragons residing in your garden.
The Botany series of games is phenomenal, and everything that has been seen with this release makes it look like it will live up to the hype from the other games in the series. The art is the first area that really draws me in, which is brought to gamers by Kin Wald.
Lastly, the game is advertised as 'Minutes to Learn and a Lifetime to Master'. That just screams that the game has endless plays to it, even though it is an easy game to learn. Now this is all speculation, but everything that I'm reading on the game screams to me that it'll be a hit!
It fits what you need in your collection, so check out the campaign launching soon on Kickstarter here!
Arcs: Beyond the Reach

Type of Game: Strategy, Area Majority/Influence, Area Movement, and More
Number of Players: 1-4
Age: 14+
Time to Play: 60-120 mins (base game time)
Publisher: Buried Giant Studios
Now, let me start by saying that this will be the first official game released by Buried Giant Studios, following the mutual agreement between Cole Wehrle and crew and Leder Games. For those of you unaware of what happened, Cole Wehrle, among others, was with Leder Games for years and years, but it was best for them to split after creative differences and direction of games. There is a whole Letter from Cole Wehrle to dive more into the specifics if you are interested.
With that being said, this isn't Cole Wehrle's first rodeo, though, as he has released plenty of games over time between his time working with Leder Games and running a separate company with his brother, Wehrlegig Games.
With that over, let's not forget how BIG of a hit Arcs was when it was released back in 2024! The game may be a little heavier, but it is a Top 100 strategy game and just outside the Top 100 all-time, according to the users of BGG. There is little known about what the expansion, Arcs: Beyond the Reach, will bring to the base game and first expansions. That doesn't bother me, though, as Cole Wehrle is one of my favorite designers. I don't expect this expansion to disappoint either!

Dicequest

Type of Game: Cooperative, Deck/Bag/Pool Building, Push Your Luck
Number of Players: 1-4
Age: 10+
Time to Play: 30-60 mins
Designer: Jochen Eisenhuth
Artist: Miguel Coimbra, Gong Studios, Jerry Padilla
Publisher: Skytear Games
Dicequest is a dice-pool builder for 1 to 4 players in which each player assembles a party of up to three heroes to face quests, gain items, and earn victory points. You will work to gather your party to build your dice pool and forge your fate with clever combos to work towards victory. The game is played over 3 Acts, where you work towards that final battle.
The designers of Dicequest are those who brought the board game universe Super Fantasy Brawl.

The reason this game catches my attention is that Dicequest is published by the studio that brought Skytear Horde to the community. It is a challenging battler that I played my fair share of solo and thoroughly enjoyed the game.
