Comics Legend Mike Mignola’s Hellboy: Seed of Destruction #1 Returns with Facsimile Reprint from Dark Horse Comics

The Issue that Launched the Hellboy Universe is Recreated with Original Design, Ads, Art Adams’ Backup Story, and a New Variant Cover by Mike Mignola!


Today, at the Comics PRO Comic Book Industry Meeting in Glendale, CA, Dark Horse Comics is announcing a collectible facsimile edition of the first-ever Hellboy comic by the award-winning cartoonist Mike Mignola. Since its inception in 1994, Mignola’s legendary Hellboy has become one of the most beloved, expansive comics universes in the history of the medium, earning both Eisner and Harvey Awards, leading to four film adaptations, and inspiring generations of creators. To celebrate the series’ legacy, Dark Horse Comics is releasing a new facsimile edition of the first-ever Hellboy comic. Co-written by Mignola and John Byrne, with art by Mignola, colors by Mark Chiarello, and letters from Pat Brosseau, Hellboy: Seed of Destruction #1 Facsimile Reprint will include all of the original design and ads from the original edition, including comic art icon Art Adams’ “Monkeyman and O’Brien” backup story. Dark Horse will also publish a 1:25 variant edition featuring new art by MIgnola with colors by Dave Stewart.

About Mike Mignola

Mike Mignola was born in 1960 in Berkeley, California, where he used to haunt used bookstores and fell in love with ghosts. He has drawn a whole lot of stuff for Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse Comics, has done concept art for both live-action and animated films, and has cowritten a couple of novels. He is best known for creating Hellboy and a great many Hellboy-related characters and recently began writing and drawing a series of folklore-inspired Lands Unknown graphic novels. When not drawing stories about ghosts and monsters, he is painting pictures of ghosts and monsters, and he can still, occasionally, be found haunting used bookstores. He lives in New York City.
