Winner of Mad Cave Studios Talent Search to Launch 90s/00s Cartoon-Inspired Graphic Novel
2021 Mad Cave Studios Talent Search winner, Damien Becton, will be launching his 90s
cartoon-inspired, all-ages graphic novel THE RUTH AVENUE RAIDERS this May.
Taking inspiration from millennial classics like Recess, Hey Arnold!, Dexter’s Lab, Rocket Power, and more, Damien aims to tell a humorous sports sci-fi story that inspires young and old readers alike to take risks, learn from mistakes, and embrace growth!
When the best and cockiest football team in the neighborhood is challenged to a match by interdimensional robots, they realize their old playbook won't save them. It's a race against the clock for THE RUTH AVENUE RAIDERS to move out of their comfort zone and adapt before the street lights turn on in this all-ages graphic novel full of heart, humor, and action!
“This story first came to me as a child when my dad, Ryan, would tell me stories about growing up with his street football team, The Ruth Avenue Raiders, and how they would go from neighborhood to neighborhood playing pick-up football games with friends. From there, it grew into a love letter to my dad, the middle school students I’ve taught over the years, my favorite childhood cartoons, and shy kids (like I was growing up) who struggle with playing outside of their comfort zones." - writer Damien Becton
