Spelunking the Solicits for February 2026 Releases

Welcome back to Spelunking the Solicits for the December Catalogs for books releasing in February 2026. Now this month will be something of a reboot for this series. I'm running solo this time and for the forseeable future this will be solo endeavor. In that spirit I'm going to make more picks. Maybe split it into 7 comics and 7 collections/graphic novels. We'll see what vein we hit during our adventures.

I'll be pulling from the Lunar Catalog #48 and as Doug use to write it, the Random Penguin Catalog for December. So if you want to check them out yourself links are right there.

The Single Issues

The Peril of the Brutal Dark: An Ezra Cain Mystery #1 Lunar pg 93 Vertigo/DC $3.99

(w) Chris Condon (a) Jacob Phillips

One of the 1st 3 books from the newly relaunched Vertigo from the team behind That Texas Blood.

(w) Joseph P. Illidge, Stephanie Williams, Morgan Hampton, Nikolas Draper-Ivey (a) Carlos Pagulayan, Valentine De Landro, and Edwin Galmon

For those that don't know I'm a huge fan of the Milestone Media characters, can't wait to see if they add and wrinkles to the history of Dakota.

ree

ThunderCats Valentine's Day Special 2026 #1 Dynamite Lunar Pg 202 $5.99

(w) Ed Brisson (a) Elton Thomasi

If you've been following my articles for a while, you know I'm a sucker for the ThunderCats. This is no exception. While the cover shows Cheetara, the story is all about my guy Panthro. Can't wait to check this one out.

ree

The Muppets Noir #1 Lunar pg 205 Dynamite $4.99

(w/a) Roger Langridge

This one really caught my eye, I wonder how straight the story will play out. Kermit as a hard-boiled detective sounds fun.

ree

Barbarian Behind Bars #1 Lunar pg 387 Mad Cave $4.99

(w) Elliot Kalan (a) Andrea Mutti

Really excited for this one from the team behind Maniac Of New York, one of my all-time favorite series.

ree

Is Ted Ok? #1 Lunar pg 409 Mad Cave $5.99

(w/a) Dave Chisolm

I'll be the 1st to admit, I have not checked out Dave's previous work, I intend to remedy that with this new book. The solicits mention its a mash up of the paranoid existentialism of Severance with the cosmic sci-fi of Akira. That sounds really interesting to me.

ree

First Wave Vol 1 Lunar pg 454 Invader Comics $6.99

(w/a) various

A Sci-Fi anthology and Invader Comics 1st, per the solicits its quarterly and in Black and White and in the manga/digest sized format.

ree

The Digger #2 Lunar pg 472 Invader $6.99

(w) T.S. Luther (a) Sam Gudilin

The art and story of this book really speak to me. Set in 1930s Veracruz, Mexico, local superstition, and a child guide. Check this out with me.

ree

Mega Man X #1 Lunar pg 664 UDON $4.99

(w) Daniel Arsenault (a) Hanzo Steinbach

Technically the 2nd issue after issue #0, I'm excited for an ongoing Mega Man X series.

For those collectors out there issues cover Bs for issues 0-5 form one giant 2x3 image.

ree

The Center Holds #1 Boom Studios PRH pg 16 $5.99

(w) Larry Hama (a) M.D. Bright

A Larry Hama helmed superhero universe. A Super Hero union. What appears to be MD "Doc" Bright's final comics work. The art looks great.

ree

The Collections

Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons: Absolute Edition DC Lunar pg 126 $100.00

(w) Kelly Sue DeConnick (a) Phil Jimenez, Gene Ha and Nicola Scott

The Groundbreaking series collected in a beautiful hardcover that would look amazing on any shelf.

ree

Superman; The Kryptonite Spectrum DC Lunar pg 130 $29.99

(w) W. Maxwell Prince (a) Martin Morazzo

The team of Prince and Morazzo is pretty tough to beat. I'm getting this one.

ree

The Omega Men by Tom King: The Deluxe Edition (2026 Edition) DC Lunar pg 139 $49.99

(w) Tom Kim (a) Barnaby Baguenda

This is an example of a series that had some bad timing. If this had released just after Tom King's Batman run it would be a top seller. People just weren't ready for Tom King yet.

ree

Space Ghost Vol 2; The Council of Doom Collections Lunar pg 227 Dynamite $24.99 (tp) $29.99 (hc)

(w) David Pepose (a) Jonathan Lau

The 2nd half of the first volume of Space Ghost from the team of Pepose and Lau, the culmination of a year's worth of story is collected here. If you love Space Ghost and haven't checked this out yet, the time is now.

This book is a basically who's who of legendary creator, originally released in 1969 in the style of the EC Comics horror anthologies. These stories have never been collected previously. Long time fans can't miss this one.

ree

Five Gears in Reverse: A Criminal Book HC Lunar pg 303 Image $24.99

(w) Ed Brubaker (a) Sean Phillips

Now this one doesn't actually come out until May 2026 but fans of the Criminal series from Brubaker and Phillips won't want to miss this and its said to be a great jumping on point for the Criminal universe.

ree

ree

The College Try Lunar pg 427 Maverick (Mad Cave) $14.99

(w) Olivia Cuartero-Briggs (a) Roberta Ingranata

I really liked what Olivia Cuartero-Briggs did with Kill Train from Mad Cave, and people may recognize Roberta Ingranata's art from Witchblade which a pretty cool book. This story is about a 40 something woman that attends her college reunion and magically ends up back in her college years, literally, with a chance to fix what once went wrong.

ree

Won Ton Soup Deluxe Edition HC Lunar pg 533 Oni Press $34.99

(w/a) James Stokoe

According to the solicits this book has Space! Clones! Aliens! and Noodles! and on top of all of that James Stokoe writing and art and the interiors are black and white.

ree

Frankenstein The Unconquered Book 1 Lunar pg 555 Source Point Press $24.99

(w) Wells Thompson, Dalton K. Shannon (a) Mary Landro, Elisabeth Mkhedzie

Here's a book by written by former CBY Editor Wells Thompson. All the issues collected here were successfully funded on Kickstarter and I was a backer on the series. It is not your typicaly frankenstein's monster book. There were definitely some unexpected twists and turned and it there is a spinoff book that was recently successful as well, Evelyn the Unconquered which you can preorder at this link
