Hola party people! I am here to bring you the July...wait, what do you mean I was replaced in July? I attend one funeral and you replace me? How dare you Yeti crew! I see it takes two Yetis to replace one Doug. Oh you snow covered lot will rue the day you picked out comics in the month of July without me! Rue I say!
New month, new comics! Come with along with us as we do our best to find the most exciting titles being offered in your local comic shops. We hope these will excite you enough to search out further books being offered and most of all encourage you to consider pre-ordering.
You see, the reader can pop into any shop and pick up a comic book, no fuss no muss, but for maximum impact of the series health and for the benefit of the creators, pre-ordering the books would be the best. To best help creators, we will bring to you our individual top 5--top 10-- NO, our TOP 7 list of favorite announced books for the month. In hopes you too will join us in pre-ordering from your Local Comic Shop! (LCS)
Things are a little disjointed in comics ordering right now. There are two places one can order from: Lunar or Random Penguin. We include the catalog and the order codes to help you out. If any of these catches your fancy take the codes to your LCS and they will make sure you get set up!
Luis’s Pick for August 2025 Releases
Oh man, there is so much good stuff coming out during the start of the spooky season. This list was originally over 50 at one point. It was so tough to cut it down to just seven. I really tried to make it to those books* (not all are books) that I think needs some attention. I’ve got a mix of One-Shots, Anthologies, Silent Issues, Kickstarter to Direct Market, and even playing cards, yes playing cards and they tell a story. It's a must check out for me. So here they are, my Top 7.
Death to Pachuco #1 (Image/Top Cow) $3.99 ORDER CODE: 0825IM0278
A tale of the Zoot Suit Riots during the summer of 1943 where tensions were high between the US Navy and young Mexican Americans. This book was originally solicited on Kickstarter and is not in the Direct Market here. Please check it out.
Ice Cream Man: The Mortal Coil Shuffle Playing Cards (Image) $9.99 ORDER CODE: 0825IM0299
This will only ever be printed on these playing cards one time. It will never be collected in another format. Such a unique way to tell a story.
GI Joe #321 (Image) $3.99 ORDER CODE: 0825IM0359
GI Joe is famously did a silent issue in 1984 for GI Joe 21 in 1984 and he does it once again here, 300 issues later.
I Hate Fairyland #45 (Image) $3.99 ORDER CODE: 0825IM0380
The recently public domain version of Popeye joins Fairyland. I can’t wait to see how Skottie Young and Jay Fosgitt handle him.
Speed Racer: Tales from the Road #1 (Mad Cave) $6.99 ORDER CODE: 0825MA0856
An anthology series set in the Mad Cave version of the World of Speed Racer is right up my alley and with art by Sebastian Piriz, just amazing.
Magnus Jakuta #1 (Wise Acre Comics) $8.99 ORDER CODE: 0825MP0915
This is a book written by Devin Arscott who gave me my first sequential job in comics, I’m definitely checking this one out and you should too.
White Tiger: Reborn One-Shot (Marvel) $4.99 ORDER CODE: 7596062139240011
For those that might be unaware, the first latin superhero was White Tiger in December 1975, This book is coming out 50 years later, during Hispanic Heritage Month. I love stories with Latin characters and I cannot miss this momentous one.

Animal Pound Collected Edition (Boom!) $19.99 ORDER CODE: 9798892155724
I read the first issue of this and loved it, but I never made my way back to it. Now (or rather, October) is as good a time as any. I’ll be honest, Tom King’s writing is hit or miss for me. However, when it hits, it HITS. I’ve also been a big fan of Peter Gross for a long time. His artwork alone is worth the price of admission.
Spider-Man Noir #1 (Marvel) $4.99 ORDER CODE: 75960621322100111
All you needed to tell me was Erik Larson is working on Spider-Man again. He’s only writing it, however the interiors by Andrea Broccardo look great. I enjoyed the hell out of the original Spider-Man Noir and honestly all the Noir titles so this is a must grab for me.
Return to Planet Hulk #1 (Marvel) $4.99 ORDER CODE: 75960621457000111
If you are a fan of Marvel in any way you have to read the original Planet Hulk. Taking the Hulk and putting him in a cosmic gladiator adventure was such a great idea. It always felt like an idea which had legs and could go on forever. Well it’s back… and I am here for it!Â
The Last Wolverine #1Â (Marvel) $4.99 ORDER CODE: 75960621374000111
Wolverine is gone. Killing an immortal mutant is no small task so this is enough to intrigue me. We follow his last student Wendigo. I can’t imagine Logan being a cuddle mentor so I’m interested to see what lead us to this and the relationship between the two.
Justice League Unlimited #12Â (DC) $3.99 ORDER CODE: 0825DC0019
I have been loving this book from issue 1. This issue features the great Terry McGinnis and Mr. Terrific! I mean who isn’t dying to see more Mr. Terrific after going to see Superman? This is also written by Mark Waid who I swear has never written a bad comic. He might be my favorite superhero writer ever. Holy cow… don’t quote me on that.. what do you mean this is getting published online?Â
DC KO #1Â (DC) $5.99 ORDER CODE: 0825DC0001
This is literally just a wet dream for young me. It’s all the hero’s fighting each other! Like when they announced Avengers vs X-Men I didn’t care if the story was going to be at all because VIOLENCE! As a kid (and well even just last week) my friends and I would have arguments about who would win in a fight. I feel like such a mark by saying I’m excited to just see superhero’s fight because I’m supposed to be a well read comic scholar, but man I am pumped for this…
Wally Woods EC Stories Artist Edition (Image) $195 ORDER CODE: 0825IM0483
The old EC horror stories hold up so well. So many great comic book legends cut their teeth doing these. In fact in some cases I think it’s some people’s best work (like Steve Ditko). Wally Woods’ storytelling is some of the best you’ll find in comics. This is a big purchase coming in at $195 so I think I’ll just add it to my Christmas list (please mom I’ll be good!). These artist editions are the best to look at. You can read it and use it to stop a bullet!Â

GI JOE: Cold Slither One-Shot (Image) $3.99 ORDER CODE: 0825IM0293
a. Growing up my mom put me in front of a tv and let that be my babysitter. Nothing slipped into my soul more than GI Joe. I blame it for my decision to jump out of airplanes in the army. ANYWAYS Cold Slither was one of the most ridiculous episodes and I am excited for this fun one-shot.
Author Immortal #1 (Image) $4.99 ORDER CODE: 0825IM0274
a. I was recently rereading 5 Ghosts for reasons, and I was thinking boy would I like to read more comic from Frank J. Barbiere. And then blam, I am looking at the solicits and see this new book with artist Morgan Beem. I must have this tale of a failing writer getting an opportunity to reboot a fantasy classic that might be getting away from him.
Godzilla vs Kansas City One-Shot (IDW) $12.99 ORDER CODE: 9798887244365
a. Well time to doxx myself. I had to pick this book to support the local comics community that has been incredible kind to me and I had already been a massive fan of. Please Godzilla leave the bbq alone. Take Gates, nobody will care.
Good Devils Don't Fair With Evil One-Shot (Image) $5.99 ORDER CODE: 0825IM0298
a. I am a huge fan of writer David Brothers and am excited to see him making more comics. Pairing him with Nick Dragotta is just a no brainer. There isn't much in the way of explanation of what the story is, but I am in regardless.
Ten Ton Titan Terrier TPB (Papercutz) $12.99 ORDER CODE: 0825PZ1043
a. Just a great month for all my favorite writers. David Pepose teams with artist Ornella Greco to make a story giant mech dogs. That sounds sick!
Terrorbytes #1 (Mad Cave) $4.99 ORDER CODE: 0825MA0862
a. Mark Russel and Felix Luis really sold me on a scary story about technological evolution.
Devil On My Shoulder #1 (Dark Horse) $4.99 ORDER CODE: 76156801476100111
a. I have read so many comics from Kyle Starks and I cannot remember a single bad one. I enjoyed Piotr Kowalski on the Witcher and Sex series. Cannot wait to see what kind of twisted story they are bringing here.
