Sneak Peeks & Stretch Goals: October Crowdfunding Projects to Get Excited About

Crowdfunding plays a significant role in tabletop gaming, as it is the driving force behind the creation of many games. There are numerous platforms, including Kickstarter, Gamefound, Backerkit, and more. These platforms help bring plenty of different ideas to life, but crowdfunding has been a staple for a lot of publishers over time to make sure that they don't overprint the game, don't lose money on the game, or simply know there is interest from the general community to play their game.

Let's get to the nitty-gritty, though, and talk about three games that are expected to hit the crowdfunding market in October!

Kickstarter

Atlas Rush

Type of Game: Print & Play, Dice Rolling, Area Majority/Influence, and Set Collection

Number of Players: 1-4

Age: 9+

Time to Play: 30-45 mins

Designer: Chris Andrea Nash and Erinn Webb

Artist: Chris Andrea Nash

Publisher: B+Up Games

Atlas Rush is a strategic sci-fi roll-and-write board game that has players piloting their faction across locations in our solar system and beyond. Throughout this journey, you must collect vital resources on each world, using them to modify your dice rolls, build stations, and outmaneuver your rivals.

The factions that players can choose from include the Terrans, Mainframe, Pirates, and Rebels are vying for control of trade routes. Throughout the game, each faction will work to be the first to capture sets of worlds, collect elements, or supercharge your rolls and gain end-game victory points.

This is really something that lines up with where my collection is trending, and the different factions entice me to add this to my own collection. Check out the campaign on Kickstarter here!

Accidental Heroes

Type of Game: Cooperative Game, Companion App, Dice Rolling, Adventure

Number of Players: 1-4

Age: 12+

Time to Play: 60-90 mins

Designer: Wojciech Grajkowski

Artist: Dominika Bylinka, Jakub Chelstowski, Mihajlo Dimitrievski, Leo Fonseca, Mateusz Komada, Anita Kotwicka, Amelia Poltoracka, Thomas Bouzille, Ines Toczyska

Publisher: Lucky Duck Games

Have you played either Destinies or Chronicles of Crime? I've played Destinies before, and the companion app that is provided with it is really well executed, so I look forward to seeing what Accidental Heroes brings to Lucky Duck Games. With this upcoming game for Lucky Duck Games, there are 200 adventures that a group can go on, which is impressive on its own.

The game itself, though, is going to challenge you to become the hero the realm neither wants nor deserves. Are you going to join the bad guys? Steal the treasure? The story you write is going to tell the group what your Accidental Hero can do in this unique world.

Barbaric: The Board Game

Type of Game: Cooperative Game, Fantasy, Miniatures, Campaign Game

Number of Players: 1-4

Time to Play: 45-120 mins

Designer: Jaron R. M. Johnson, Brad S. V. Roberts, CJ Thomas

Artist: Vala Foundry

Have you dove into the hit Vault Comics Series, Barbaric, before? I haven't, but I know this community, and I'd be willing to guess that a large chunk of you have read the comics!

This tabletop adaptation of the comic series will force you to push your way through waves of enemies to work towards mastering your curse and slaughtering your enemies. A player will choose one of 6 characters, each with their own curse, through hordes of four different factions.

Now I'm usually not one to dive into a miniature heavy game, but I know that there were hundreds of thousands of comics sold worldwide from this independent hit and that is more than enough to get my attention. Will it grab yours?
