Sneak Peeks & Stretch Goals: August Crowdfunding Projects to Get Excited About

Crowdfunding plays a significant role in tabletop gaming, as it is the driving force behind the creation of many games. There are numerous platforms, including Kickstarter, Gamefound, Backerkit, and more. These platforms help bring plenty of different ideas to life, but crowdfunding has been a staple for a lot of publishers over time to make sure that they don't overprint the game, don't lose money on the game, or simply know there is interest from the general community to play their game.

Let's get to the nitty-gritty, though, and talk about two games that are expected to hit the crowdfunding market in August!

Kickstarter

Button Shy Micro Games: Summer 2026 Collection

Type of Game: Card game and other mechanisms

Number of Players: 1-4

Age: 8+

Time to Play: 10-30 mins

Designer: Scott Almes, Ted Heidersdorf, Ryan Cooke & Steven Smith and more

Artist: Steven De Waele, Manon Mergnat, and Others

Publisher: Button Shy

If you haven't backed any Button Shy Game collections before, you are truly missing out on a group of games that are among the most portable and great for vacations. I will say, at the time of writing this article, there are only three different games revealed, and one has yet to be announced, but that doesn't change my suggestion for anyone who is looking to add this collection to their shelves.

I own over ten different Button Shy games myself, and there are a handful that I've introduced to others that buy a copy for themselves after one play of them. The biggest plus to Button Shy games is the affordability. Like any game, they've gone up in price ever so slightly, but you are still getting four games for the price of one normal box game, and that is a steal!

Rebels Against Rebellion

Type of Game: Area Control, Deck Construction, and Solitaire Game

Number of Players: 1-2

Age: 12+

Time to Play: 45-60 Mins

Designer: Trevor Benjamin and David Thompson

Artist: Kwanchai Moriya

Publisher: Flying Pig Games

For many of us who enjoy tabletop gaming in my group, if a game has Trevor Benjamin and David Thompson's name attached to it, we buy it.

Rebels Against Rebellion is a card-driven war game that uses cards in your deck to represent the units and locations under your control. The player who successfully spreads their control across Scott County better than their opponent wins the game.

The card art is phenomenal, and everything production-wise looks amazing with this game from the campaign. So what is holding you back from checking out the latest hit from these two designers?

Gamefound

DC Justice League Unlimited Roleplaying Game

Type of Game: TTRPG

Number of Players: 2-7

Age: 10+

Time to Play: 120 mins

Now don't look for too much expert advice regarding this TTRPG, but I couldn't help but mention this game while knowing the audience here on Comic Book Yeti. I've only participated in a few TTRPGs, but when it comes to Super Heroes, I'm 100% in on giving this a shot!

The system is built around d20 as its core, which combines familiarity with innovative twists designed to make every session feel as though a comic book is being written at your game table. From an outsider, this mechanism seems very simple and beginner-friendly, which is even more appealing to me.

Do you want to make decisions as if you are a part of the Justice League Unlimited? I sure do!

Follow the campaign now that it is live on Gamefound until the middle of August!
