CRUSIN' CROWDFUNDING Week of 8/4-8/10

ree

Hello one and all! Welcome to a new Comic Book Yeti feature. I am Doug Wood and I am wanting to cover the world of comics crowdfunding each week from my spot right outside of the Yeti Cave (tm, I think). I plan to grab some exciting books live this week to put on to your radar. If you have some extra cash that week and want to support some creators, this will be a great way to help make comics a reality for a lot of newer or even experienced pros right now.

Additionally, I will be shouting out comics that are in the pre-launch phase on their platforms. Pre-launch is a huge period for creators. Not only does it show initial interest in the campaign, but it also allows the crowdfunding platform to identify campaigns that they will want to spotlight come time for launch. That is huge for campaigns as the algorithms can make it hard to find fresh books. If you have any interest in a book, please consider clicking to be notified of launch. Even if you don't have money at the time of launch, it helps enormously!

Exciting Comics I Found

ree

Starting off with a creator that appears to be running their second ever campaign. It's always exciting to find books by creators you are not familiar with. Sam Hawthorne: Semi Legal Contractor looks incredibly well polished. The art is well accomplishing the feel of the private eye pulp stories of the past and still feels modern. I am absolutely loving how the coloring is done in the sample shown on the campaign page.

The creator, Jakob Luedtke, is looking for an absurdly low goal and he has not yet hit. There is only 19 days left and I hope this creator can find an audience. Please take a look at the full campaign to see if you feel like it's worth your monies.

Not only is it cool to find creators making new projects that excite you, but there is a little extra bonus when you discover they are local to you. Creators Allison Pang and Irma Ahmed have their 4th volume of their series Fox and Willow live now! This fantasy comic is the collected version of their hit webcomic. That means this volume of story is already completely ready to ship to a printer as soon as the goal is met.

The fantasy comic boast some incredible limited pallet artwork. Which they show off in an impressive action scene! The duo has not yet reached their goal with only 11 days remaining on their campaign. Do yourself a favor and check out their page. They even link their webcomic, so you have plenty of material to determine if you are into this adventure!

Next we have the third entry into an another exciting fantasy comic for you to look at. Creators Dillon Gillbertson and Jason Piperberg have just launched My Necromancer Neighbor. The main artist, Jason Piperberg, is producing phenomenal artwork. Highly impressive detail in each page they preview with. I have to mention the color work on these pages as well because they compliment Jason's lines so well.

With this entry the team has brought on a guest artist, Jack Foster, to cover some flashback art duties that he has rendered in gorgeous watercolor splendor.

At the time of writing this, the campaign has just launched and it has not yet reached its goal. I implore you to view this page, if fantasy is your jam, because I cannot imagine a comic as great as this not being right up your alley.

Last live project for the week is Evie and The Helsings by Steve Bryant and Don Cardenas. Steve Bryant has been crowdfunding for many years at this point and all of his comics have been very exciting. Pairing with Don Cardenas on art duties definitely raises my levels of interest.

They are campaigning to collect funds for a collected edition of their rock and monster comic. The collection features an impressive 176 pages of comics and behind the scenes material! At the time of writing this they still have a ways to go to reach their goal. Their page has a ton of cool rewards to consider, so click through and take a look at what they are offering.

Comics That Are Coming Soon!

ree

Ian Mondrick and Benjamin Filby are finally at the conclusion of their series! One of the most excited finales I have been around for on Kickstarter is nearly live. Now is the perfect time for you to swoop up all copies of this outstanding horror comic. Honestly I think artist Benjamin Filby should be considered for awards for his intense work on these pages.

Issue 3 of Headcases is here! The tale of the troubles teens can get into and a disembodied head reaches a fear pitch in this action packed series. Creators AJ Mason, Lesly Juilen and Paulo Sampaio are launching tomorrow. This is a comic that would not shock me to be seeing solicited in the direct market once it wraps up. Get in now, so you can be one of the cool ones to know about it before it is mainstream.

One of my favorite webcomics of all time is preparing to launch a campaign to collect the second volume. Creator Jay Fabares is bringing her suspense mystery comic to Kickstarter. If you are a fan of Twin Peaks this is for you. And if you are never seen that like me, the comic still hits so gloriously.

Lastly, another third entry into a comic series is Magni the Mighty. The series by Devin Arscott and David Monge Bautista will soon deliver issue 2 of their epic fantasy comic. Get ready as this comic puts the lead face to face with his past. A past that includes the fearsome Baldr!
