CRUSIN' CROWDFUNDING 8/18-8/24

ree

Whew! Between getting hired for a tight deadline comic job and trying to coach softball in a heat advisory, I have not been kind to my body. Forgive a little shorter entry than usual. I am once again, Doug Wood, bringing you exciting comics I find on crowdfunding platforms! If you have some extra cash that week and want to support some creators, this will be a great way to help make comics a reality for a lot of newer or even experienced pros right now.

Additionally, I will be shouting out comics that are in the pre-launch phase on their platforms. Pre-launch is a huge period for creators. Not only does it show initial interest in the campaign, but it also allows the crowdfunding platform to identify campaigns that they will want to spotlight come time for launch. That is huge for campaigns as the algorithms can make it hard to find fresh books. If you have any interest in a book, please consider clicking to be notified of launch. Even if you don't have money at the time of launch, it helps enormously!

LIVE NOW!

As I have continued to say, my favorite thing is finding campaigns from comic creators new to me. And absolute bonus when you discover they are from the same place you are from! On a rare whim I hit the video play button and was hit with so much gorgeous painted comic art that I had to put this comic at the top. Remaster Monk is set in a world where tech people are vampiring our ADHD, this peculiar story will be hitting so much nostalgia imagery for us older comics fans. Creator Levi Hoffmeier appears to be oozing with creativity.

This project has not been live for a week yet, but it has hit half of its fairly petite goal. Please do yourself a favor and look at the campaigns page. Maybe even the aforementioned video.

Moving on, we run into some superhero comics. I have been following Bete Noir from the beginning, but fell a bit behind on collecting it. Good news, as the collected edition is here! 142 pages of impressive storytelling and artwork blend to make surprise after surprise really hit. I believe creators Andrew Clemson and Kris Wantowhy are destined for bigger things in comics.

The team is giving you a preview of issue one for free on their campaign page. I believe that will be enough to get their hooks into enough that you'll want the full collection. This was launched in the last week and it is nearly at its goal.

Lastly for live section, we have the reprint edition of Atlantis Was Built For Tourists. Eric Palicki and Wendell Cavalcanti's horror series is being printed in a new digest format. The team promotes it as a quasi sequel to Shadow Over Innsmouth. I know you cosmic horror creeps (complimentary) are out there and foaming at the mouth.

Heading into week 2 of its campaign, this book has yet to fund. I have now doubt it will get there, but get yourself a copy to help make sure.
