Launching March 1, 2023, the Four-Issue Comic Series from Writer Cullen Bunn and Artist Mike Deodato, Jr. Takes Readers to Moscow for a Journey Full of Intrigue, Action and Espionage
AWA Studios, the independent developer of bold and relevant stories from the world’s most outstanding artists, writers, and artisans, announced today the introduction of its latest espionage thriller, RED ZONE. From Eisner-nominated comics writer Cullen Bunn (WOLVERINE, SPIDER-MAN: SEASON ONE, BYTE-SIZED) and Eisner and Ringo Award-winning comic book artist Mike Deodato, Jr. (WONDER WOMAN, MARVEL’S AVENGERS, THE RESISTANCE), RED ZONE is a high-octane spy thriller set to debut on March 1, 2023.
This four-issue miniseries transports readers to Moscow alongside Randall Crane, an unassuming American professor of Russian and Slavic Studies at New York University. Crane is called in by the United States government for a secret international mission back to Russia, where he finds himself in hot water after his long-buried secrets come to light. When his support team of commandos is ambushed and killed, it is up to Randall to fight his way out of Russia using his “particular set of skills” that were honed during the Cold War era.
“RED ZONE is a departure from my usual storytelling and I’m thrilled that Axel and the team at AWA gave me the opportunity to explore my fascination with Russian espionage in this series. It’s a story of intrigue, action, recapturing the things you are passionate about, and doing more than you thought you could, with incredibly dynamic illustrations from Mike Deodato,” said series writer Cullen Bunn. “RED ZONE was a lot of fun to write, with twists and surprises in every issue, and we hope fans are going to love it as much as we do.”
“Cullen and Mike have both worked on some of the biggest series in modern comics but RED ZONE is unlike anything readers have seen from them before. Together they have brought to life a spy thriller that is guaranteed to get readers’ pulses racing and we can’t wait to see how the fans react,” said Axel Alonso, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of AWA Studios. “With the entire world looking towards Russia in recent months, there’s no better time to take readers on an action-packed adventure through the streets of Moscow.”
RED ZONE is created and written by Cullen Bunn and illustrated by Mike Deodato, Jr. Issue #1 will be available March 1st, both digitally and in stores wherever comic books are sold.
