A new look at Jim Aparo's artwork has been recently announced by Act 4 Publishing & Skybound, exploring and honoring his work from the 1970s and 1980s. Over 200 pages of Aparo's original artwork from his work on Batman and The Spectre will be featured, with most of the art scanned in color. So while it appears to predominantly be black and white, blue pencils, ink gradients, and other nuances will still be visible.
Jim Aparo's DC Classics Artist Edition will be available at your LCS on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, and at booksellers on Tuesday, September 30, 2025! You don't have to wait that long to get a sneak peek, though. We have an extended preview down below!!

This artist edition will contain original artwork from the following:
4 Complete The Brave and the Bold stories
1 Batman story from Detective Comics
5 Complete Adventure Comics featuring The Spectre
A selection of classic covers and pages.
The Artist’s Edition of Jim Aparo’s work is an art book disguised as a comic collection. The only better way to see these pages is by looking over Aparo’s shoulder at his drawing board!
Jim Aparo’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition is the first book in the publishing partnership between Act 4 Publishing and Skybound, with Darwyn Cooke’s The Complete Spirit Connoisseur Edition quickly following in October 2025. Wally Wood's EC Stories Artist’s Edition- EXPANDED and Mike Mignola's Hellboy in Hell Book 2 Artist’s Edition will follow in February 2026 and April 2026, respectively.
