A new month, a new selection of amazing titles from Yen Press and I have the deets on the upcoming releases you won't want to miss!
MUST READ TITLE:
My newest addiction in the world of high-octane, beautifully illustrated titles to come out of the IZE Imprint, Jungle Juice is a series I haven't been able to put down since I cracked open volume one. This intense manhwa follows a group of humans who used a mysterious bug spray known as Jungle Juice that promised to kill any insect without fail. Users who managed to inhale the fumes soon found themselves transforming into the very bugs they tried to destroy, turning them into half-human, half-insect hybrids. It's addicting and I've loved every second of this series so far. Vol.4 is the newest installment and it releases on June 18th, so it was (naturally) the first thing I dove into when I got my review box. The series mixes the insane action of titles like Solo Leveling with the superhero school days vibes of My Hero Academia. With stunning artwork and gripping storytelling, alongside some of the coolest character designs you'll ever see, this title is a MUST READ for your summer.
NEW TITLES TO KEEP AN EYE ON:
A SINNER OF THE DEEP SEA
This new title from Akihito Tomi basically asks the question: what if The Little Mermaid was turned into a semi-promiscuous manga series with retro-style character designs? And it works! This is a beautiful, fun mermaid story that those still wishing for more Mermay content will absolutely love. It has incredibly detailed artwork with rich blacks and soft character designs that feel like they've been pulled straight out of a 90s shoujo series. This new title releases on June 18th.
SENPAI, THIS CAN'T BE LOVE!
A brand new one-shot BL manga from Shinta Harekawa about a seasoned computer graphics artist and his new protege as they struggle to balance their blossoming feelings, tight deadlines, and the cutthroat industry they both deeply love. This series has a live action adaptation that I'm dying to watch, and this fun take on the classic subordinate/senior office romance that does suffer from some of the classic one-shot issues but, overall, is a fun summer read just in time for Pride! It also drops on June 18th!
THIS MONSTER WANTS TO EAT ME
A brand new, unique series (also arriving on June 18th) about a young girl who is plagued by a constant feeling of drowning who is almost devoured by a monster only to be saved by a mermaid who, in turn, wants to devour her once she matures into the perfect meal. I don't want to spoil much because this is a fun, weird, summer story that hits a lot of great beats in the horror, coming of age, and fantasy genres. Volume two is slated to arrive in September.
OTHER RELEASES TO KEEP AN EYE ON:
(All titles are releasing on June 18th! So make sure you carve out some time to dive into these amazing titles!)
I Want To Be a Wall, vol.3 - a touching slice-of-life series about an asexual BL fangirl and her gay husband as they try to navigate life as a married couple brought together to appease societal norms, family pressure, and the world's expectations. Releasing Jun 18th, this series is a must for Pride month.
A Terrified Teacher at Ghoul School!, vol.14 - a spooky-cute slice-of-life series about an anxious human teacher with a passion for education trying to adjust to his new role as an educator in a school for yokai and monsters! This is an immensely fun, long running series.
I Want To Be a Receptionist in This Magical World, vol.4 - one of my favorite recent titles in the Yen Press line-up, this series follows a young girl who dreams of becoming a receptionist - a coveted position in the magical world they live in - and her journey of self discovery, romance, and spell casting.
Black Butler, vol.33 - we all know it, we all love it, this long running Victorian gothic series about a toy company heir and the demon that's bound to him is a staple in most hardcore manga readers' libraries.
The Uncanny Counter, vol.2 - a surprise breakout favorite of mine this year, this manwha follows a crew of supernaturally gifted individuals who narrowly escaped death and were bestowed powers to keep the balance between the worlds of the living and the dead from becoming blurred. This is a fun, action-packed series with some amazing artwork and great comedic timing.

Sometimes it's good to play games like this to relieve tension, but if you do it too often and disregard other duties, it's not a good idea. run 3
